While ultrasound audio detection systems are useable straight out of the box with a little patience & practice on a known pregnant animal, scanning is not a skill that can be readily gained from studying a set of operating instructions alone.
The truth is that proper operator training is a pre-requisite for achieving positive results from even the best quality ultrasound pregnancy scanning equipment. Farmers can rapidly become proficient, but training comes first.
Scanning technique and interpretation is best imparted by one-on-one hands-on experience with a trainer in on-farm conditions.
This is why Advanced Farm Systems have teamed up with TAFE Western to establish the first ever Australian certificate training course in livestock ultrasonography.
Courses which include theory and practice in on-farm conditions are conducted monthly; on rural properties proximate to TAFE Western Campus at Orange NSW. The cost is AUD$500 per student for a two day course which includes tuition and lunch but is not inclusive of travel and accommodation.
